Review of HP EliteBook 8560p 15.6-Inch Business Laptop

HP has just reported their new business oriented notebook with codename HP EliteBook 8560P. The EliteBook 8560P business notebook is developed under an aerospace-inspired HP DuraCase and meets the MIL-STD 810G military-standard for drop, vibration, dust, humidity, altitude, and high temperature. HP EliteBook 8560P available with starting price at $1,099.

The display is 15.6 inches; we had a pre-production model in the lab, with a basic 1366 x 768 resolution. However, the production model will feature a more impressive 1600 x 900 panel. The 8560p features an island keyboard reminiscent of the HP Envy 17, though sadly sans-backlighting. Instead, HP’s signature pop-out keyboard light sits beside the webcam. It’s a bit dinky, but it works.
Specifications

* Based on Sandy Bridge platform
* 15.6-inch diagonal LED-backlit HD anti-glare display
* Display resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels & upgradeable to full HD 1080p resolution
* Powered by an Intel Core i3/i5/i7 processor
* 1GB AMD Radeon HD 6740 graphics
* Up to 16GB DDR3 memory
* 128GB/160GB SSD or up to 750GB HDD with self-encrypting drive options
* HD webcam (select models)
* USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 connectivity
* 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Gigabit Ethernet
* Express Card/54 slot
* 9-cell (100 WHr) Li-Ion battery, 6-cell (62 WHr) Li-Ion battery, 3-cell (31 WHr) Li-Ion battery
* Dimensions: 14.72 x 9.86 x 1.34 inches and weighs about 6.01 pounds

The laptops also feature new USB 3.0 ports and a USB 2.0 charging port, in addition to a range of wireless connectivity options, choice of multiple operating systems, and either a hard disk drive or a higher-performance solid-state disk drive.

The latest version of HP QuickWeb now includes a Web browser, e-mail functionality offline, video conferencing with Skype and other widgets for weather, stock quotes or applications of social media. The updated version of HP Connection Manager is a single application that manages integrated mobile broadband connections and communicates the status of Ethernet and Wi-Fi. The software supports 3G/4G, Wi-Fi and Ethernet on most networks in Windows 7, Vista and XP and has been redesigned to integrate with HP Client Automation.

The EliteBook 8560p now shares the same battery type as the EliteBook 8460p (which is the same battery used by HP’s 14 inch business notebooks for the past several years). Big-time HP fans (me, for instance) will know that HP’s 15 inch business notebooks have always used the same battery type as the larger 17 inch models; so you got an 8-cell HP EliteBook 8560p battery that was flush with the notebook. Now that there’s been a change, you’ll only get a flush battery on the EliteBook 8560p if you go with the 6-cell option; a 9-cell battery is available, but it sticks out the back quite a bit.

The new Elitebooks will seem eerily similar to the Apple Macbook Pros, although that might have been intentional. Aluminum metal, which can only be found on the lid and palm rest area in the previous generation, is now used throughout. Lid closed and looking at it from the bezel, the clean lines, minimal lights, and light silver color are very Macbook Pro-ish. It's a thicker and heavier laptop, though (the 15-inch Elitebook 8560p compared to the Macbook Pro 15-inch, that is); it's thicker than inch and weighs over 6 pounds, by my estimates.

HP EliteBook 8560p Notebook designed for high class business people and for heavy work load. It has 15.6 inch HD LED Display, HP this model comes alongwith windows 7 professional, this notebook can be worked for easy and hard work purpose. MS Office Suit works really great on this HP EliteBook 8560p notebook, making spread sheets and power point presentation is never been so easy before. This notebook is little heavy but is made dust free and humidity free, you can carry it easily with its bag and move from one location to another. This notebook designed for multi tasking purpose at a time you can work with office tools, listening music, video voice chat with its web cam and built in mic and a lot.

HP EliteBook 8560P other features include a DVD or Blu-ray drive, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 connectivity, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, mobile broadband, Gigabit Ethernet, and an Express Card/54 slot, and a 3-, 6- and 9-cell options.

The EliteBook 8560P business-rugged notebook also equipped with Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, 10/100/1000 Ethernet LAN, Mobile broadband, two USB 3.0, two USB 2.0, Smart Card Reader, Express Card/54 slot and 9-cell HP Ultra Extended Battery provide up to 32 hours of battery life. The HP EliteBook 8560p charger is runs on Genuine Windows 7 operating system and measures in 13.31 x 9.11 x 1.25 inch with starting weight at 4.56 lb (2.07 kg).

The EliteBook 8560P gains many new durability features including an enhanced Duracase which is optimized to prevent damage when the notebook is placed in a backpack. The new DisplaySafe frame is a doubleshot rubber ring that runs along the outside of the display to absorb shock in a backpack. This keeps the display from rubbing on the keys and keeps papers and debris from getting in while in transport.

The EliteBook 8560p has a platinum-colored case with a “bead-blast” finish and an aluminum-alloy hinge. The chassis meets MIL-STD 810G military-standards for drop, vibration, dust, humidity, altitude, and high temperature.

CPU choices range from the dual-core Intel Core i3-2310M at 2.1GHz to quad-core Intel Core i7-2820QM at 2.3GHz, while graphics solution includes the AMD Radeon HD 6470M 1GB dedicated video card besides Intel HD integrated graphics. There are also two SODIMM slots for up to 16GB of DDR3 memory, hard drive capacity of up to 750GB or a 128GB or 160GB solid say drive, and an upgrade bay that can be populated with an optical drive or secondary HDD.

Besides the new representatives of proBook series, HP today announced also a pair of fresh business -notebook series eliteBook on base of processors sandy bridge: 14- inch 8460p and 15,6- inch 8560p. These models are separated by their stylish wear-resistant case of platinum color, and also intensive batteries, capable of bringing the operation time to 32 hours.

The display has a rubber frame around its entirety which helps protect it from bumps and drops, and the island-style keyboard is spill-resistant.The bottom panel of the notebook pops out easily to upgrade the internal components. Speaking of which, the new HP EliteBook 8560p AC adapter will have Intel’s 2nd-Generation Core processors, 7200-rpm hard drives (or SSDs), and options for mobile broadband, and discrete AMD graphics.

HP EliteBook 8560P Power Assistant software extends battery run time while reducing energy consumption through a new simple user interface. It is an integrated solution that measures and logs reported energy usage by the PC and up to four HP connected monitors (for a total of five screens). Users can now create custom power plans and track energy consumption to meet specific computing needs around the clock.

The HP Elitebook 8560p is a serious desktop replacement. I’m looking forward to testing the production model: with the addition of dedicated graphics, and the increased panel resolution, I imagine it will comfortably support graphical work.

Despite the initial delay of Intel's second-generation Core processors (Sandy Bridge), the Elitebooks will be Sandy Bridge-equipped when they ship. They'll also have five different batteries to choose from, the biggest of which is a 100WH HP Elitebook 8560p battery wedge (8 hours) that slides underneath the laptop.

Dimensions of HP 8560p are 14.72 x 9.86 x 1.34 inches and weighs about 6.01 pounds. Like the 8460p, the HP EliteBook 8560p will be available for purchase on March 15th. The Elitebook 8650p also supports docking stations and AMD Eyefinity Technology to handle numerous displays.

Dell Latitude E4300 Overview

The Dell Latitude E4300 is one of the newest laptops by Dell in the Latitude range and is almost ultraportable. The Latitude series has been a high performance, high reliability business series aimed at those who want something better than Dell’s Vostro series of business notebooks. The Dell Latitude E4300 is one of the most portable 13 inchers out there. It has the trademark Latitude quality and features a nice design and build quality. Reliability has been Dell Latitude’s middle name and the E4300 completely adheres to that. A Latitude can last about 3-4 years easily and are known to be the most durable among notebooks. Also most business customers generally need portability with long endurance and reliability, all of which the Latitude series offers. Dell also offers superb customer care with the Latitude series which satisfies most customers.

The only aspect of the Dell Latitude E4300 that's weak is its integrated Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics Dell Latitude E4300 AC adapter, which is slow and takes up some system RAM. It recorded 1020 marks in 3DMark06, which means it won't be good for crunching 3D graphics, but it will be fine for running the 1280x800, 13.3in screen or a higher resolution monitor connected to the notebook's VGA port. Another of the notebook's weaknesses is its lack of a digital video port; you don't get a built-in HDMI output or DisplayPort. If you want a digital video port, you have to purchase the one of the docking options.

The solid state drives are great in terms of speed, reliability and extending Dell LATITUDE E4300 battery life but they can add a lot to the total cost so budget minded companies may go in for the standard HDD. The E4300 comes with Intel’s latest Wi-Fi chipset and Bluetooth so you get all the mobile connectivity you could need. For those who want even more, a cellular modem is available as an option.

The ambient light sensor can adjust the brightness of the screen automatically. In well-lit conditions, the screen increased in brightness, while in dark conditions the screen dimmed. It wasn't overly sensitive to minor changes in lighting conditions. Funnily enough, when we enabled the 'Power Saving' scheme, the ambient light sensor was automatically disabled and the screen brightness increased, but it did not do this every time. We found this frustrating.

As you could have already figured out by the specs, the performance of the E4300 is great! In idle mode, the CPU cores are clocked at 1,5GhZ, going higher when needed. I never came to the point to use all of the 4GB DDR3 RAM, so I can not tell how it is behaving under full load, yet. But so far, it definitly hits all my expectations concerning speed/performance. Software is always starting immediatly, the whole system is snappy as hell ( without vista, this is),..

For now, I did not play any games on the E4300 so I can not tell anything about the graphics integrated. It is DirectX10 capable but do not expect too much from a videocard without even own memory.

The ultimate team player, Latitude Ultra-Portable laptops can be managed virtually anywhere in the world by your IT professionals. With image and systems management tools like Dell ImageDirect and Dell Client Manager, you can help simplify systems management and free up IT to focus on more strategic business challenges. Latitude Ultra-portable laptops also work with all E-Family notebook docking solutions.

The brushed metal look is gorgeous on the Dell E4300. It certainly looks sexy, and to Dell’s credit, this is also its best laptop yet in terms of build quality. The laptop feels amazingly solid with its magnesium alloy chassis. There is absolutely no hint of flex on the palm rest, or on the laptop screen. Attempts to twist or prod resulted in no ripples on the screen. It is worth noting how solidly built the metal hinges are. There was hardly any motion regardless of the positioning or angle of the screen. The 6-cell battery protrudes from the back of the laptop, and is hardly noticeable, although that is a matter of personal taste. Again, Dell has been outdone by its competitor Lenovo, which manages to fit in its own 6 cell SONY VGP-BPS8 battery without having it protrude.

The Dell Latitude E4300 is a remarkable business ultraportable that offers the benefits of both speed and battery life—provided you get the extended battery. Its weight and screen size sit between the E4200 (review coming shortly) and the E6400, and it's the best option of the three, in my opinion. The 13-inch widescreen is the sweet spot and a first in the Latitude line, and the illuminated keyboard and color options are excellent aesthetic touches. It's not as innovative and forward thinking as the Editors' Choice Sony VGN-Z590, but it has a tremendous upside potential.

You can use the Dell Latitude E4300 charger for creating elaborate office documents, image editing, and even chopping up and rendering videos. Our reivew unit came with 4GB of DDR3 SDRAM (you can get up to 8GB) and a fast 7200rpm, 160GB hard drive - the hard drive managed an average transfer speed of 30.72 megabytes per second in our tests. This is a little slower than notebooks such as Dell's own slimline Vostro 13, but it's still a very good result. There is an option for a solid-state drive, and you can even get the laptop with a second hard drive installed.

There is a new laptop from DELL.Dell Latitude E4300.It is a the most powerful and portable notebook launched by DELL till date.The 13 inch screen makes the machine ultra portable.The Intel Core 2 Duo processor and boasts in battery life makes it a perfect choice for professionals.It costs $1349.

Business ultraportables are revered for what they bring to the table. They are priced at a premium and are expected to meet significant criteria. Since business travel accelerates wear and tear, durability is one of the main objectives. Several hours of battery life is no longer enough; a business ultraportable has to last all day, whether through a single Dell LATITUDE E4300 battery or multiple ones. Ample connectivity features and future-proofed parts are equally important. The Dell Latitude E4300 ($2,789 direct) assumes a place among the elite of corporate laptops, venturing down paths that were uncommon in the Latitude line until now. (This model doesn't even have a true predecessor.) For the first time, a 13-inch widescreen, color options (blue, black, or red), and an illuminated keyboard are part of its arsenal. And when used in tandem, the two high-capacity batteries yielded over 8 hours of battery life.

A few other buttons on the E4300 are worth noting. One, the slick "Latitude On" button, triggers Dell's branded version of the DeviceVM Splashtop technology, which lets you quickly check e-mail, contact, and calendar info without fully booting up the computer; it's an extremely handy feature for the business traveler. On the downside, the keys for volume control and muting are small, awkwardly placed, and very stiff.

Like many 13.3-inch displays with 16:10 aspect ratios, the E4300’s screen has a native resolution of 1280 x 800. However, we would have preferred the larger workspace provided by a 1440 x 900-pixel resolution, something the E4300’s main competitors, the Lenovo ThinkPad X300 and X301, both offer.

Intel's new processor architecture displayed significant performance increases over previous models. For example, Asus's G71Gx, which uses a Core 2 Quad Mobile Q9000 chip, scored only 78 overall in our benchmarks. The Core i7's clever trick is its Turbo Boost Technology. This overclocks the processor automatically when you perform demanding tasks. The 720QM's base speed is 1.6GHz, compared to 2GHz for the Q9000, but the new chip can overclock a single core as high as 2.8GHz, or spread the speed boost across two or four cores as required.

The Acer Aspire 5940G comes with express card, 4 USB, 1 Firewire, a VGA, an infra red port, eSATA, Audio connections and a 6 in 1 card reader. It also comes with a Wifi and an Ethernet to give you the internet connectivity. You can also connect to the internet through the Wimax. Thus it’s having all the necessary ports available that are required in a good laptop.

The Acer Aspire 5940G AC adapter packs one of the most powerful processors today, a HD graphics solution, and fast memory for smooth-running multimedia and demanding applications. Keep your files on a spacious hard drive, enforced by a fingerprint solution that also doubles as a quick-launch and navigation tool.

The high-gloss trend isn't only questionable for displays but obviously the manufacturers - amongst them Acer, too - feel obliged to pursue it. The new multimedia notebooks from the manufacturer are definitely something for piano lacquer fetishists - there are ample high-gloss surfaces on these notebooks. Adjacent to the 18.4 inch display giant, the Aspire 8940G, the smaller brother, Aspire 5940G, ends up on our test bench. Acer squeezes the laptop in the densely packed multimedia and all-round laptops with the new Intel Core i7 processor, a state-of-the-art AMD Radeon graphic, a BluRay drive and multimedia control elements and tries to captivate not just with its looks.

With the highest scores coming from the entertainment tests, it’s clear that Acer has managed to build a machine deserving of the media control touchpad and the subwoofer which takes up the rear third of the machine. The backlit keyboard is also a nice touch for controlling films in the dark, but it certainly doesn’t help the Acer Aspire 5940G battery life.

Connect and communicate reliably with your family and friends from anywhere in the world through Wi-Fi or the advanced WiMAX connectivity option. Make good use of the Aspire 5940's high-def webcam and noise-suppressing microphone for memorable video chats with someone special.

Standby devours 0.6 watt and when deactivated 0.4 watt - these values could be better. By the way, there is also an energy savings button on the notebook. When you trigger it - nothing happens. The energy savings plan isn't changed nor adjusted and the display brightness isn't regulated, either. Acer should make improvements in its software.

Apart from this gripe, the screen is gorgeous, with good brightness levels and vibrant colours. It uses an LED backlight, which we found to be even across the entire screen. The glossy finish isn't ideal for brightly lit rooms, but it does lend a pleasingly saturated look to deeper shades.

A further technological treat is the Intel Core i7 processor - it is currently applied in many new notebooks of a higher performance class. Barely anyone would have believed a year ago that four core processor would find their way into affordable middle class notebooks. The built-in 720QM is the smallest mobile Core i7 prozessors currently available. But it already bids a good computing performance with a clock rate of up to 2.8 GHz and also due to hyperthreading, thus eight logical cores. A four GByte DDR3 RAM working memory, together with Intel's new chip set, P55, always supply the processor with enough data to compute. Most games, however, merely benefit from the turbo function, which partly overclocks the processor. Only few games can use the processor's efficiency completely, e.g. by distributing the AI calculation on the cores. In return, video or image editing software usually feel at home on the many cores.

A solid state drive (SSD) is a data storage device that, similarly to flash drives, uses solid-state memory to store persistent data, but is designed to replace a traditional hard drive (HDD). The benefits of a SSD in comprasion to traditional HDD are smaller energy consumption, speed (in terms of data access), and higher reliability. Currently, however, SSD are more expensive and offer lower capacity than regular HDD, and are therefore seldom in use.

If you’re one of those people who won’t accept second best and wants the ultimate in laptop technology then you need the Acer Aspire 5940G laptop. Just to prove it’s at the forefront of technology it comes with the brand new Windows 7 operating system, so you know you’ll be strides ahead of everyone else.

But as so often, this low resolution, especially vertically, will not suit everyone, particularly those who practice of photo editing, office, surfing or multimedia tasks, which is unfortunate given the processor board. Finally, Acer Aspire 5940G charger seems that the installed edition of Windows 7 is not a 64-bit, which is a shame if it is because it would have been able to fully support 4GB of RAM unlike a grinding 32 bits.
